Challenging Decisions

These are not easy times, by any means. While there are predictions that just over half a million people worldwide are over the age of 100, odds are that most of them were too young to remember the flu pandemic of 1918. This means that we are all experiencing something no one has gone through before. It’s only natural that this would cause anxiety, grief, and fear.

One of the biggest impacts on our lives has been the effects of the pandemic on our young people and their education. With the uncertainties facing students, parents, and even educators as the beginning of the school year approaches, we at the Silverado wanted to help our community by providing a bit of insight as to what’s going on behind the scenes in our school systems. We reached out to most of our region’s school districts and want to share our findings with you.

Expect the Unexpected

The district superintendents were unanimous about one thing: Nothing is certain at this time. The state changes guidelines frequently, sometimes even twice a week, making it very difficult for our schools to devise plans that they can announce and stick by. Some of the districts have spent hundreds of hours developing intricate plans only to have to cast them away after a new state directive, driving them to decide to wait until the deadline (two weeks before opening) to announce their plans.
