And Now for Something Completely Different: Spokane Renaissance Faire
Back in another lifetime when I lived outside of Boston, Massachusetts, there was such a thing (and there still is) as the King Richard’s Faire. Some folks waited all year for a chance to go to this renfaire (short for Renaissance Faire), but I’d never been. It was a long drive for me — over two hours — and the entry fees were not within my budget. One year, however, some friends convinced me to go. The best I can say about my experience there is “meh.” Once inside the grounds which were just packed with people, it seemed everything else had a cost. And people were constantly trying to sell me stuff. I decided pretty much immediately that I never needed to go again. (Today, the faire runs each weekend from the beginning of September to the middle of October and costs $32 per person.)
Fast forward to October 2018 when I found out about the Spokane Renaissance Faire in Colbert. I have no idea what piqued my interest about this festival. It might have been because once the summer rush passed, there was less to do around these here parts — and this was something completely different than the rodeos, fairs, and other events that I’d been privileged to attend this year.
Tucked away on the Lazy K Ranch about five minutes off Highway 2 in Colbert, the Spokane RenFaire was nestled in between two hillsides…
